Position Description
This position is part of an AmeriCorps National program and will assist with a K-12th grade after school program based in churches and faith-based organizations. Duties may include tutoring, mentoring and providing overall support for the program. AmeriCorps Members will also provide basic technology activities for the program at sites where computer facilities are available. Service may also include conducting community outreach and assisting in developing community and school partnerships as directed. Members may also be involved in recruiting, training and coordinating volunteers and work-study students to assist with the program. The position requires a minimum of a one year commitment and is full-time.
Requirements and Qualifications
Applicants for this program must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED); must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.
Applicants should have good people skills, ability to work with children and have a desire to learn. Experience in working with Black and Latino communities is desired as well as experience in non-profit community- or faith-based organizations. Familiarity with Microsoft Word and the Internet is desired.
Benefits
This position will provide a basic living stipend for the year of $11,100 and health insurance. Some sites may be able to provide housing or rental assistance. Child care benefits are available if needed. After completing the year, the AmeriCorps Member is eligible to receive an educational award of $4,725 to pay off past student loans or for future schooling. In addition, repayment of Federal student loans may be put on hold for the duration of the Service Year. AmeriCorps benefits do not affect eligibility to continue receiving government benefits based on need (food stamps, WIC, veterans benefits and HUD subsidized housing).

This position is part of an AmeriCorps National program and will assist with a teen program based in churches and faith-based organizations. Duties may include tutoring, mentoring and providing overall support for the program. AmeriCorps Members will also assist with web-based academic enrichment elements and teaching on online safety. Member duties may also include conducting community outreach, parent outreach assisting in developing community and school partnerships as directed. Members will assist in a college readiness program which may include coordinating college campus visits and conducting college admissions workshops as directed. Members may also be involved in recruiting, training and coordinating volunteers and work-study students to assist with the program. The position requires a minimum of a one year commitment, with a minimum of 1,700 hours of service and is full-time.
